Description

Another promo artwork for my graphic novel, Journeys of Shelby Bly! This time it is an experiment in lighting that has Shelby exploring an Aztec tomb with only the light of a primitive torch. Ever so curious, and somewhat easily amazed, she is in her element here as a student of archaeology. As for why she's using the torch instead of her handy flashlight... the flashlight broke. Hey, it happens! To create the lighting of this scene I combined both traditional lighting (a point light above the torch and an infinite specular) and IDL (a cylinder primitive positioned on the top of the torch with a high ambient value). I then added the flames and enhanced the overall image in postwork using a few of my own tricks and a filter.

Very nice work! Your lighting works perfectly. That's what I have the most trouble with in any render. Congratulation!

And of course you don't need batteries for a torch! The lighting is very effective here, Lizzie - interesting technique with the cylinder... Very well done!

It's going along very well. I haven't gotten to read all of Journeys of Shelby but it is very exciting/suspenseful. Everything looks very well done. Looking
