Description
The surf has carved this soft sandstone into some fantastic shapes! This might look like bone, or perhaps smooth wood, but it's rock. The tide was out far enough when we were at Larrabee that I could stand out on the point and take shots back toward the beach.

Mother Nature - the ultimate sculptor..... I can just feel the wonderful texture through your photo, Tara. It's almost as if I'm there, running my fingers over that stone. This is wonderful!
Sandstone is such a sculptable rock; I like it! Sandstone and limestone are two of my favorite rocks because just about everything sculpts sandstone and limestone dissolves (very slowly) in rainwater! I love the patterns in this; it looks almost like woodlice have gotten to this, or their aquatic cousins. They tend to do stuff like this to wood and to see that sandstone has been sculpted by wave action, tide action, and maybe even tiny bits of crustacean action is really simply amazing! The otherworldly look of this is something that makes me think of some of the science fiction stories I've inhaled in the 70s and 80s, and even now, though I don't think that "sculpted" landscapes are big in the genre now...at least not on book covers. Oh well. I love this shot. It's yet another enticement for me to come out that way, especially since coming out thataway seems to be looming closer on my personal horizon...well...just a wee bit nearer than before, and I like that.
Ooh, what a fantastic find! I love when rocks get sculpted by water, and those little pockmarks and the big swirls are endlessly fascinating. Wonderful shot!
