Description
This is the inside of Kings Meadow swimming pool which opened in 1902 and closed to the public in 1974.
For a few years, it was the home of the Reading Sub-aqua club but has stood empty since they moved out.
The council wanted to demolish it and were just about to when it got grade 2 listing because it is a fine example of a Georgian open air pool and has some fine wrought iron work which came from the old Reading steel works, now long gone, and is built with Reading bricks from the old brick-kilns, also, now, long gone.
I had this photo but couldn't resist a little play in Photoshop by adding the torrent of water which actually comes from the nearby weir.
