Description

Vokes air filter modelled in Shade. Then applied to Bazze's Spitfire V along with a repainted texture... having deleted the existing cowling mesh in Vue. "Hey presto" a Spitfire VC(Trop). A promise is a promise... and Churchill promised Australia Spitfires, so he jolly well sent Spitfires... eventually, that is, once the the RAF got on the front foot in Europe, and once the Mediterranean was reinforced. But not wanting to have these glycol-blooded British darlings bombed out of existence the very moment they arrived within range of enemy bombers in Darwin (Malta comes to mind here) the Brass down-under did it all "hush hush" - insisting everyone use the sneaky codeword of "Capstans", (a brand of cigarettes), to conceal the arrival in Australia of the coveted filter-tipped fighters in mid-1942. Far too "clever" if you ask me... When No. 1 Fighter Wing first brought the Spitfires and their "Big Wing" tactics to Darwin in early 1943, it remains a point of some controversy whether or not the Zeroes, true to form, promptly crunched them up and spat them out like so much chewing tobacco. Depends on whose stats you believe. Either way you look at it though, the mere presence of Spitfires was not a game-changer in the Pacific. Victory had to be done the hard way. Rendered in Vue 8 Esprit Thanks for viewing and comments.

Very impressive! Good backstory and wonderful work on the filter and textures. Good to see Bazze's Spitfire wearing different nations clothing :)

No! Never could out turn a Zero... But one hit from that cannon and a Zero was dead in the sky! So, they learned to dive on the Japs and take some out and climb to safety, the zeros could not climb as fast either! Handy that! lol But this took a little time to learn, and loses were taken... Great image!!!! Rob
