Description

"I'm not allowed to say how many planes joined the raid, but I counted them all out and I counted them all back." Brian Hanrahan (1949-2010) Very professional and much respected journalist. While attached to HMS Hermes this comment got him around the reporting restrictions placed by military intelligence, enabling him to reassure the public that all the British Harrier jump jets had returned safely without saying how many there were. Thanks to neil for reminding of this very famous quote of the time :)

Very cool image and a great reporter indeed, I think that message was printed around the globe.I seem to recall him standing on the deck of HMS Hermese, making that announcement on the news, with Harriers moving in the background. (re : redoing, GR3's and Sea Harriers on the horizon ;-)

Neat image, hyprerealistic (apart the greyish overall tint ...). It really could be a photo !

Thanks guys... @ neiwil... yes I remember the news report well and you can still see it on YTube and who can forget the pilot giving the 'Thumbs Up'. @ teecee2107... The greyish tint is one of the things i'm not sure about too my friend, I think I may have over postworked this one :)

Very nice picture. It's so sad that all Harriers are gone in the RN...

Yep, I too remember seeing it, and seeing clips of the attack on the news.. The Harriers going so fast you barely see them, but the explosions rocked the earth.. Only one Harrier was hit by AA fire, one shell went through the tail.. It was repaired and flying by morning.. Hell we were good! Need I say good? I think not... thanks mate.. Rob
