Description
Captured 7/1/12, mid afternoon, at a very large park in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Monumentally ZOOM worthy.
When Andrea/durleybeachbum posted her Water Company Padlocks back on 11/19/11, I felt overwhelmed, even deflated....how could I ever match a foto with seven padlocks? It was difficult enough just getting two at a time, but seven? But fate smiled upon me yesterday when I was at the park, explicitly to shoot some power towers. I noticed this fence and a gate, separating the open park from a golf course. I approached the gate, feeling it may not be locked so I could enter and ninja around for targets of opportunity, but when I got near it I was stunned, stunned, at the sight of a variety of padlocks, eight in all, hooked to a cool chain! I could understand eight locks to protect Fort Knox, an atomic power plant, Cape Canaveral, or even Disneyland, but a golf course? On reflection, maybe the locks were donated by golfers, whether needed or not, just to ensure their privacy upon the links. So forget roses, lakes and power towers, this is supremely ultra cool!
Adieu, thankx for popping in, and for any and all favs and noncritical comments.

Cool story Dad. I wonder how often one has to open this gate? Daily, weekly, monthly, however often I'm Sure it is quite a lengthy ceremony.
Brilliant find, Harry!! Wonderful!
What a fantastic photo Harry, this is one cool collection of locks
Looks like they are using them just to make the chain fit. Why not just buy a longer chain? All they have to unlock is one, but looks totally nutty. Super find, Harry.
You're right, this is an awesome find, and your capture is brilliantly crisp and rich. I wonder if it's a private course, and the locks belong to the residents who are allowed access; rather than a single key, they each have their own lock which is "safe" from unauthorized access? Flawed theory, I know, but it's the best I can come up with in a hurry. Well done, Harry!
Wow Harry what a find, wouldn't want to be the one who has to unlock them all. hugs Jane xx
lot of locks. been cheaper to go and buy a chain to fix the job than buy locks to fix the job.
Well again Harry... Got to ask... But then I also have to ask what the heck is this! Overkill for sure! I know you've a 'Padlock' thing going on, and OK, fair enough, .....this one is 'different! lol Rob
Amazing capture Harry! I think that you are the winner for sure!
First of all, I love your padlock captures. And I include them in 'pattern' shots because, to me, they're just bursting with abstract texture, light, reflection, sheen, grunge, you name it. I could do an essay on every one, but if I have to choose, how can I pass up 8-in-one? I love the comments: people trying to figure out "why 8?" I'll add my theory: It's a padlock gang-bang. Either that or a big drunken get-together---they look like they're having a terrific time. Also, you get these angles in your padlock shots, they're plain cinematic. Not sure I can explain---it's these dramatic angles that make the locks and fence posts look like they're bursting out in dance. Well you got that here. And you got the two 'goldest' (brass) locks in the foreground, leaving the silvery ones behind. In fact, some of your top-angled shots---of padlocks---feel we're looking down on a high rise. It has sweep. Wonderful. (Did you find out why they have 8?) The rusted links are wonderful counterpoint too. Splendid.
