Description
Rock stack, Ediz Hook, Port Angeles, Washington.
This was the first stack we saw while we were on our trip, and it provided a common thread for the journey. There were other stacks here and there, bits of artistic expression left by other travelers, and we did our part to continue the conversation.
Artist unknown, but like minded.

We have a sandy beach. But I have seen miniature versions in the Jewish cemetery.
A lovely pile of stones - perhaps people who do this suffer from them. Piles I mean not stones!!

Amazing shot.
I just commented, in Craig's gallery (in his image for your birthday---nice timing, eh? it's almost June!), where I spoke of your way of combining inner & outer reality in an image. Visibly so. It has something to do with an inner glow & softness that permeates your images, and how those two worlds work hand in hand. I can't explain it better, just yet; but it's present here as it is in so many of your images. Mind you, the rock art is beautiful in itself; and reminds me, in fact, of the work of Andy Goldsworthy, who made the famous film about his work, Rivers and Tides, which I recommend to both you and Bill, if even just to see snippets of it. He makes this kind of art to the hilt, making magisterial constructions out of rocks, ice formations, leaves and branches, etc, which he constructs right where he finds these things; and, in harmony with nature, it's meant to decay with the forces of nature around it. The film can leave some tired; but to see him make these things, and then know they will soon wear away, etc, is a beautiful experience. In any case, that's what you're capturing here; and I didn't realize this was an ongoing art in this part of the world... But the image itself has that quiet inner glow that you get in any number of your pieces. Given that it's mainly very large rocks, with a few smaller ones on top, ie that it's mainly hard rocklike stuff, the glow and gentleness that you bring to it makes a wonderful transformation from hard to inward & glowing. It makes these rocks very delicate and 'spirit'-like as a result. Really, this glow is more a presence than a 'blast', very gentle but very there; and it's one of your trademarks as a photographer. Beautiful work. And nice to see art like this in the wild. Your trip has produced a number of illumined pictures, of which this is a beautiful example.

Lovely Tara. I really like the contrast of textures and colors of the rocks. I reminds me of a asian influenced spa, lol. Add a couple candles and a bubble bath and I'm there.
Geologically speaking...where did the second rock come from??? Looks like an aggregate...unusual amongst all the other rocks we saw on our trip. These stacks fascinate me and you've captured the feeling...
Great close up. A world wide phenomenon. There are rock stacks around here in NJ, believe it or not and they were everywhere in Arizona. I've seen them in Sri Lanka and Australia too. And of course Japan. Thanks for sharing.
