Description
The Barbary ground squirrel (Atlantoxerus getulus) was introduced to Fuerteventura from the African Spanish colony of Ifni as a household pet in 1965. Having escaped they have thrived in a natural environment similar to their homeland. Without predators however, their numbers have increased to an estimated 300,000 and are now a threat to the island’s endemic species.
Its erradictaion is seen as impractical on Fuerteventura, with efforts concentrated on its spread to other islands (Gran Canaria and Lanzarote).

FANTÁSTICA FOTO ADORÁVEL ESQUILO AMO A POSE.+++++++++++++5
Super shot.
How lovely
very cute critter and superb capture
He is precious! He looks very much like the ones around here. Wonderful that he posed for you. Half the beauty of photography is when the photographer can catch a moment like this, and is able to take advantage of it. Photography is very much an art of found objects. ;)
Great capture!
these guys are cute. Great pose to catch him in. Love the color as well.
Excellent shot
Excellent shot! He is different from those here. His ears are smaller, the tail lighter and not as thick. Nice looking little guy!
Oh what a cutie! Lovely image.
