Description
For Vyktohria because I know she "digs" this kinda work - awful I know but I bet she's used to puns like that by now.
The Anasazi inhabited Mesa Verde near Four Corners in southwest Colorado between 550 and 1300 AD. Cliff Palace is the largest cliff dwelling in the region composed of some 150 rooms! The region was occupied for a period of about 700 years but the Palace is believed to have been used for only a little over a hundred years near the end of the occupation. It was abandoned around 1260 A.D. for reasons not known with certainty, but probably due to an intense and long term drought that hit the region about that time. The modern Pueblo are believed to be descendents of the builders of these dwellings.
Many moons ago I got to spend a week or so in this area for my graduate research. It is one of the most spiritually active areas I have ever experienced, if you are open to it. I was popping in and out of waking dreams after sundown nearly every day that I was there. I was camping in the backcountry which really helped get in tune with the nature of the place. To me Mesa Verde/Four Corners is one of the top 5 places in North America you have to see before you die and easily within the top 20 of the world. What do you think Victoria?.
Even the U.S. Government seems to agree about the spiritual nature of this National Park as it is listed as an Empowering Park; the list can be found at empoweringparks.com
More from this area coming down the pipe.

Awesome--the aerial perspective really lets you take in the full compelxity of the structure....
yor talking my neck of the woods now Roxy, never been to 4 cornes in all the years i lived in colorado. always been facinated by the cliff dwelling shots i've seen.
That is wonderful. I've been to Mesa Verde.
very cool image and great dedication. I want to paraphrase a line I heard, "over Mesa Verde?" "No! no I'm not! and don't call me Shirley"
I haven't been there, but it looks fabulous! Wonderful photograph.
I've dreamed of traveling there... ahh, if only wishes were wings. beautiful image and outstanding information my friend. 10+++
Fine photo and presentation. Thanks for the link...very interesting. And we're all about visiting/photographing in the great National and State Park system here in the US.

Awesome image and dedi as well I got up a new one hope you come visit me as well:) Hugs Susan~
yeah and when the gov would be able to suck some power or money out of the place it would be declared off limits.
I got to go to Mesa Verde when I was in my late teens. My Dad and I were driving some friends of my aunt's back to CA. Their son was working as a park ranger there at the time, so I got to go on a bit of a special tour. I got to go inside a kiva that still had a roof on it. That was pretty special. The nights there are amazing. You can feel the past and the ghosts of the past all around you. I was standing outside the lodge one night looking at the moon and just enjoying the evening, when an owl flew past through the trees, hooting. That combined with all that ambiance of the past and feeling of spirits all around made a moment to remember. It is an incredible place, all around. Lovely photo of it Roxy. Reminds me of the old style sepia post-cards :)
Great shot that captures the uniqueness of this site. The sepia tint & fuzzy border give it additional gravitas...
East coast girl here. Didn't even know this place exsisted..
It seems to be a fascinating place. I would like to walk barefoot there! I always walk barefoot in ancient places to feel the vibes! :) Great shot!

Agree that area is a must see, spent a couple weeks there visiting extended family (many, many moons ago). Can hardly wait to see more!!
Very nice shot!
Wonderful shot. Looks like an archived archaeological image. This inpiring me to go through some older pics. A few years ago my brother and I spent a week in Sedona Arizona and did a little off the beaten path hiking as well as some of the better known spots. If you got those feelings in Mesa Verde, it's present in Sedona too. The very air seems to buzz. An amazing region of the US.
LOL! Yes, I'm sure she has a bullwhip and fedora lying around in a closet somewhere...... :-D Wonderful shot, Roxy! Yes, this is definitely on my 'bucket list.' Frankly, I think that whole region is spritually active.... a very mysterious and spectacular area...
Don't suppose I'll ever get there but it looks amazing. And I never heard of "empowering parks" ("fun", "retail","water" yes!). Love your treatment and thank you for all the detail. Am a big fan of archaelogy on TV (Google "Time Team" which is on a lot in the UK). I guess we are a bit spoilt over here in the UK having been conquered by Romans, Vikings, the odd Frenchman, practically everyone really ;)
Sorry for late commenting Roxy:-)Great sepia work! What a shame!? probably I'm die before the see this magnificent place and a lot of similar historical places in the world!!Thank you for the info and that great picture my friend!:-))))))
