Description
Downed in the vast Pacific at night...lucky to be alive, lucky the moonlight glint on the fuselage was spotted by the roving "Pete" spotter plane, lucky the seas are fairly calm tonight, lucky that the famously fortune blessed "Yukikaze" destroyer was in the vicinity, lucky that rescue is friendly. How easily it could have been different.

Especially like the water modelling. Bit embarrasing running out of fuel before he hit the ship...it does'nt bode well for his promotion chances in the Kamakazi.

... and lucky the plane is still afloat! Very well done image. Am reading about the battles for Guadalcanal in "US Navy Destroyer Operations in WW II" by Theodore Roscoe, US Naval Institute Press, 1953. Man, was that ever a series of devastating battles with tremendous losses for both sides. This image bears a little bit of that out. Keep up the good work! :-)

While the A6 had a floatation factor only somewhat better than an anchor I guess that fellow should feel very lucky indeed. Great composition and superb water.

Thanks to everyone for all your kind comments, I really appreciate them and definitely take constructive criticism to heart. For the record, the water is a model water plane that I made using a inverted photo of actual water as a terrain map. They don't all work as good for every application so it takes a lot of trial and error...mostly error. Post work on the water was restricted to cloning out some annoying artifacts, using the smudge tool to "whip up" some bits of spray on the crests, and adding a bit of yellow highlight to some wave crests near the fuselage. All the tiny little stuff adds up sometimes. For me, often the "how the heck did they do that?" really adds to the enjoyment of a piece.
