Description
Tipula is a very large insect genus in the fly family Tipulidae. They are commonly known as crane flies or Daddy Long Legs. Worldwide there are well over a thousand species. This one is probably a female Tipula paludosa.
All species have very long fragile legs. The male has a swollen tip to his abdomen, and the female has a pointed ovipositor which is used to push eggs into soil.

Fantastic shot Michel, super light and clarity.
Wow, it looks quite large; wonderful detail!
Very nice close-up. Well done.
Great capture! This looks a little like a case of mimicry to me. It resembles a dragonfly. I'm glad that tip isn't nasty!
dans le sud_ouest, on appelle ça un cousin.... je ne sais pas pourquoi ....
Wonderful image
Outstanding details, a perfect focused shot, Michel.
Such an interesting insect - we do call one of our spider types also: 'Daddy Long Legs' ... thanks for the info, Michel BB
Awesome! How do you manage to get as close to it with a 6 mm. without frightening her? details are fantastic.
Extremely clear shot of the Crane Fly, best I've ever seen I think! Funny, around here the name "Daddy Long Legs" is used to describe the Harvestman insect.
