Description
Dear friends,
thanks for your nice comments for my last pic. I hope you like this here, too
If we could see is Meissen as the heart of Saxony very old, and as the castle mount is the city of Meissen, too.
Under the castle MISNIA, founded in 929, established a small settlement with slavish and german settlers with the market privileg and later with a city privileg (1332 A.D.)
The horses, the pigs, cows and dozen of chicken are gone forever, the 1000 smells of a medieval village are blown in the wind - but the structure of the old city is still alive and the houses are existing, too.
These houses here are many centuries old, they are from gothic, renaissance and baroque age and style.
For example the yellow house: This is the seat of the old pharmacy of Meissen. The pharmacy exists longer as the house itself and is nearly as old as the historic journey of Christoph Columbus!
Some facts:
The pharmacy was founded in 1504 A.D. by the city doctor Christian Leuschner. The house itsself was constructed 50 years later in 1555-1560 in renaissance architecture style. The entrance is flanked by dorian pilars and have writings from the antique philosophs HIPPOKRATES and CICERO. The wooden floor above the pharmacy rooms inside is sculpted and decorated with paintings from 1604. Inside the backyard there are wooden galleries with fine woodcarvings.
The other houses have long and interesting stories, too. They are all historic landmarks as the mayor`s house at the other side of the marketplace, too. The mayor`s house have a very fine restaurant inside. The local kitchen is influenced by the bohemian way of cooking nearby.
Hope you enjoy this pic. Please feel free to send some comments, they are always appreciated. Have a nice weekend!

Interesting history facts, and pharmacies in those days probably produced better remedies than they do today, simply because they were natural substances.
Wonderful work,
this is wonderful
Bellisima photo, my friend! The architecture is impressive. I love the cobblestone street, and I think the sign with the lion and the grail is fantastic.
Most interesting to see.
Wish to visit there... what a cool and beautiful place!
Just a marvellously beautiful structure!
herrliche architektur und ein richtig schöner platz !!
Wonderful Work!!!
Xcellent clarity and details and colors!
Great cityscape. So much to see and the info adds to the interest.
