Description
When I was in San Francisco a couple of months ago, there were two things I REALLY wanted to do. One was to walk across Golden Gate Bridge and the was to go to Britex Fabrics. If you're someone who sews, this would be nirvana for you. It's 4 floors of fabric, trim, lace, buttons, 4 floors of anything you could ever need. I could have spent days there, but I was on a mission and knew exactly what I wanted. As my sisters and friend waited patiently (well, I'm don't really know how patient, but they pretended quite well--and there WAS a Macy's right across the street!) I found a salesperson, asked where I'd find what I needed and was out of there in less than half an hour. That in itself is a minor miracle. If you sew, you KNOW that you can wander for hours in a place like this.
Oh, the really cool thing? As we drove into he city, looking for our hotel, we turned down the street, and VOILA!!! THERE was Britex, right across the street. Is that kismet or what???
The building itself is four stories, with wide wooden stairs going up to each floor. There is an elevator if you need it, which is highly possible after a day wandering around. Next trip, that'
PS--never did get to the bridge, but I was till batting 500!!

OH WOW! I have never wanted to got to San Fransisco, but now you have changed my mind. Surely there has to be somewhere in London just as good..I will do some research.
That is kismit my friend lol. nice capture
this is wonderful
super pic
Aw... my mother's favorite place, too. And I really enjoyed being there, too. Always something interesting to look at (and I'm a man). Long, very narrow floors with VERY high ceilings, walls filled with shelves right to the ceilings; long, narrow tables with all kinds of cloth and other stuff; drawers full of mystery. Aisles (?) so narrow you can scarcely pass another person. An air of quaintness found nowhere else. And a certain odor not found elsewhwere. And good taste in music, too. Yes, I, too, miss Britex. Thanks for the memories! Keep up the good work! :-)
Stellar POV, clarity, contrasts, detail, definition, lighting, angles, repetition, rectangular forms, et al, Missy Marilyn.
Great shot!
WOW so colorful warm hugs, Linda
Eyes glazed over Drooling Barely see to type Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh ... Four floors? * gulp * Oh man.
You caught this in the perfect light. Love seeing how other people see San Francisco.
Sounds like a fantastic spot; I never knew about it, probably a good thing for my wallet...I have NO self-control.
Xcellent photograph! AmaZZZZZZZzzzzzzzing natural illumination fX!
OK, so now Britex is on our bucket list:-) I can do a floor...then it'd be off to Macy's for me too. lol. This is a very interesting sign...combination of incandescent light bulbs (the B and the F) and the rest neon. Well done.
I've never been very good at sewing, although I used to successfully sew the buttons back onto my shirts. These days I can't even SEE the holes in the buttons (even with bifocals), so even that's out. I can understand being in love with something, though. Get me in a book/music/video store and several weeks could go by before I'd make it to the check out counter. It's a beautiful building, though, and I love the sign. Hmmmmmmmmm, I've always wanted to walk over the Golden Gate Bridge myself, perhaps something could be arranged some day to where all the ninjas would walk together getting as many photos as possible? Hmmmmmmmm. Great shot BTW.
Great building I love SF ~~
I'm getting into this whole fabric thing as I've just discovered how wonderful fabrics can really enhance onion husks. Hmmm...this is already going off on a weird tangent and I've only just started this comment. How typical of me. Okay, so back to this photo. WOW! WOW! This really rocks. You've nailed this so perfectly and the light is absolutely fantastic. I mean. Look at it! This has all sorts of nice, visual excitement going on in it. I love the architectural details and that bold, classic sign. Yeah...this ranks up there with the Reza's sign, or the Chicago Theater sign...remnants of a bygone era, and this is a beauty. And just look at those architectural detail thingies! WOW! Now, about onion skins and fabric... ...oh, never mind! This is a super shot!
I love old signs and this is a beauty.
