Description
...architectural details of an 1890s storefront in historic Wallace, Idaho.
...have always been intrigued by the old cast iron store front systems of the late 1800s and early 1900s. Wallace is full of them.
...Cast Iron Storefronts.

super architecture
Cast iron, eh. I don't think we have any historic shopfronts made of that in my town..but now I shall look again!
Great shot Bill and a reflection too!!
Used to be a bit of this in Liverpool, saddly all gone now.Given the 'process' of creating this, I'm surprised they went to the trouble of making it look like carved stone. Modernity in keeping with tradition 1800's style ?. Obvious question time, what did Messrs White & Bender do or purvey?
Cast iron was an "in thing" in architectural decoration during the time period mentioned. Iron was made an architectural "in thing" with the building of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It became a part of the art nouveau movement in art and architecture, even in small buildings. It was considered more easy to shape (melt and pour) than stone and more durable if cared for (paint to prevent rust). Connected with this is the art nouveau stain glass windows, often mounted in cast iron frames. Often easy to assemble with a few nuts and bolts. Nice to see this preserved. Keep up the good work! :-)
So lovely.... From a time when quality and craftsmanship were the goals and the end product. A lost art for sure. Now, it's slap it together as quickly and cheaply as possible - and charge top dollar. Sad. Beautiful capture, Bill!
Beautiful glass work. Very elegant and well captured too :)
this is lovely
Great shot Bill. We have a few of them here too
GREAT SHOT
Very nice work - fascinating subject.
Stellar POV employed in this pic of the beautifully scrolled window work, Bill. I believe that is its cast shadow at the upper left of the foto.
very lovely image
They're so beautiful; I love this shot!
Looks great Bill now they are all becoming Aluminum Door and window frames lol.. Super POV too!!
A fascinating shot, and I love that window! I'm sure we can find more. :)
I agree with you Bill it has sooooo much style. Well done mate.
This is quite a fascinating shot and it's full of all sorts of fun little details! I really like the angle on this and the familiarity of that metalwork...We have quite a bit of that in odd places tucked around Chicago and it definitely adds character to the city (until we tear such beauties down!) What really gets me is the whole style thing: not just of this building itself (I love old-school lettering too) but of this whole photograph. This is brilliantly composed.
Interesting entrance!
Nice work Bill....
Love the glass, great find!!!
Is it me, or is there something, strangely rude about that name? lol I love the shot though, well taken mate.. Rob
Great POV of this awesome old window and storefront!! I too love old architecture.
I really like the POV Bill, something I did a lot while in London, Clive
I like the leaded glass window. Nicely done and nicely captured.
