Description
While based in Bristol I took time to visit Wales, over the old Severn Bridge returning over the Second Severn Crossing. I had to - I was involved in the manufacture and testing of equipment used in the building of the new bridge.
The first stop was Newport for a bite to eat before walking around a bit.
This is looking upstream of the River Usk from the George Str Bridge. The river is quite tidal here, being about 7km (4,5 miles) from the Severn Estuary.
You can make out the Newport City footbridge in the gloomy distance.
Thanks for all the comments!

It would be interesting to watch the tide movements. It would seem large enough to produce a tidal bore.
Wayne is correct. The River Severn does, indeed, produce a tidal bore. I had to look it up, having never heard of such a thing in my life! Fascinating. Great shot ... thanks for the research opportunity!
Just fascinating! a bit grim but I'm sure it looks more cheerful in sunshine! So much to be curious about in this shot!
nice one my friend
Fascinating Clive. Too bad you didn't get to return for a high tide comparison:) The mud at low tide...does it smell bad? I am sure it must have years ago when rivers in cities and towns were little more than sewers.
Super shot of this tidal river Clive, glad you managed to get over the bridge.
Stunning capture Clive. God Bless.
Very cool shot
Beautiful kind of bridge !
Great image Looks a tad muddy there on the banks Hugs Susan~
Great capture of this industrial river scene!
fanastic shot!!!
Indeed, surfers do try and surf the tidal bore, but it can be a very dangerous thing to do.. Great shot Clive, shame about the placing of that weird looking modern bridge thing near the older ones.. (they do like to do that don't they?) Never worked out why... But i like this, well done.. Rob
