Description

The lengths some people will go to to commemmorate an air-raid.... ;-) This B24A is easily the most difficult model I've attempted. I've used photos of a warbird B24A Ol' 927 (40-2366) to try to recreate the open waist and tail gun positions of B24A '40-2374' but these will have alternative materials so they can be "closed" as well. This way I can leave my options open re the dogfight recreation. The model is more detailed than my previous models, will hopefully cope with close-ups better. The flaps etc are ready for rigging too if I get so inclined and there will be separate objects for deployed wheels for renders on the ground. The secondary sources disagree about what B24A was shot down, when it was shot down, and where, and one contends that it not only fired back- (a medical transport flight?) it might have a partial claim to the single Zero downed in the "Battle of Broome." However, the more I learn about these early war "ferry" B24s, the more remarkable becomes the idea that one could have downed a Zero that came at it out of nowhere. Most surviving gunners from bombers deserve hand-shakes all round of course- but imagine its March 3rd, 1942, you are sitting in the tail of a B24A with a single machine gun, the wind is in your hair and you are staring down six Zeroes. OMG! Thanks for viewing...
