Description
The Calliope Hummingbird feeds on Salvia spathacea (Hummingbird Sage). In this render, I wanted to test out my new hummingbird sage model/textures against my Songbird ReMix hummingbird.
Salvia spathacea is found throughout the California Floristic providence in Oak Woodland, chaparral, coastal sage scrub, open or shady places to 2,400'. It grows 1'-2' tall with red/pink flower spikes and is very fragrant.
The Calliope Hummingbird is medium sized (3.5 inches) and summers in the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. It migrates to Southern Mexico to Central America for the winter.
It is the only member of the Stellula genus. The genus name means "little star". This bird was named after the Greek muse Calliope.
Render in Poser 2012 without Postwork. Models: Songbird ReMix Hummingbird and Salvia spathacea (Ken Gilliland). Backing Photo from my yard (photo includes all non-flowering Salvia spathacea)
