Description

This is little fellow was waiting for our return to south Florida. He is a House Gecko, a lizard belonging to the family Gekkonidae and found in warm climates throughout the world. They range from less than an inch to 2 feet. This little one was hanging around our front door and is about 2cm. This is their normal colors and you can tell how young he is because of the size of his head compared to his under developed body. If he survives to adulthood, he will be 5 to 6 inches (12 to 15 cm) long. There are over 2,000 Gekkonidae species and many species are very colorful. He climbed into my hand all by himself and did not try and sell me car insurance. Sorry about the hairy arm. Do zoom he is cute! Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Awww, what a cute little thing! I didn't know they could be this small. The hairy arm gives great perspective on the size!

Great shot; I've never seen one so small...hardly worth cooking at all, LOL! I've only seen them in Hawaii, and usually because I look for them as they can easily go unnoticed, especially this size.

I wish these guys (and gals) lived in cooler climates as well...Chicago can use a few geckos (of the non-Australian-accented-insurance-sales-species.) The colors are great and as with most geckos, this one is quite adorable! I love the almost smiling expressions they all wear. And needless to say, I'd make sure that this one was well fed to ensure survival to adulthood. Of course I'd also give him a nice terrarium to live in, which would--coincidentally--provide numerous photo ops. Great shot. I rather like the mammal/reptile contrast! It's an artful touch.

Excellent selective focus of the cute little guy, Dana, wondering what's going on. And that arm and wrist are indeed most hairy.

what a wonderful shot!! Yes, you can tell he is just a baby! Hopefully he'll grow to adulthood! He must have felt comfortable enough in your hand to let you snap his picture!!! Well, who knows...maybe he is hoping he'll be as popular as the insurance gecko!!!
