Description

The Black Crowned Night Heron is a ground dwelling species. Adults are approximately 25 inches (64 cm) long with a wing span of 42 inches (107 cm). They have a black crown and back with the remainder of the body white or grey, red eyes, and short yellow legs. Young birds are brown, flecked with white and grey. These are short necked and stout herons. Only time I have seen an adult, out in the open, during the day. Zoom works well here. Info from the National Geographic field guide. Thanks for stopping by my gallery, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

Eccellente cattura di questo bell'esemplare di Nitticora ( questo il suo nome in Italia , lo trovo spesso sul fiume Serchio ). Excellent capture of this beautiful specimen of the Night Heron (his name in Italy, I often find myself on the river Serchio).
