Description
The Saturn V (Saturn Five) was an American human rated expendable rocket used by NASA's Apollo and Skylab programs from 1967 until 1973. A multistage liquid fueled launch vehicle, NASA launched 13 Saturn Vs from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida with no loss of crew or payload. It remains the tallest, heaviest and most powerful rocket ever brought to operational status and still holds the record for the heaviest launch vehicle payload. To date, the Saturn V is the only launch vehicle to transport human beings beyond Low Earth Orbit. A total of 24 men were flown out to the Moon in the four years spanning December 1968 through December 1972. Saturn V is 363 feet (110.6 meters) tall, 33 feet (10.1 meters) in diameter, weighed 6,699,000 pounds (3,039,000 kg) and carried a payload 262,000 pounds (119,000 kg). I call this the business end of the rocket and I could stand in any of these five engines, with arms raised, and not come close to touching the top. Cavernous to say the least. Info from Wikipedia. Zoom works.

Wow awesome view of this remarkable view of history. Great shot- thanks for sharing! :) And have you checked out the Photography Story Challenge? Go continue the story!
Great shot. That would have to be the mother of all paint strippers. An amazing machine. Isn't it ironic how after a long and sometimes tragic detour with the Shuttle Program we find NASA coming back to Moonshot 2.0... There is nothing like a whopping big rocket to get you places!
Amazing image Dana, very interesting story, excellent narrative, very well done!
i like it! gr8 capture dana, bet your having a blast,
Fantastic capture, Dana It was always impressive to watch these rockets launch
wow that would be big to look at. i happy you saw this. if i go I going there too.
You saying you could stand in one of these really shows it size. My god that's HUGE!
Fantastic shot Dana superb and thanks as always for the info !!
Now that is an impressive shot...it is so big too! Another stat about the Saturn V is the sound intensity. Apparently the decibel level is so great the sound alone would kill you if you were nearby and could withstand the heat. This was a singularly great achievement of the space program, and think that those huge nozzles had to be directionally controlled as well...just amazing!
Superb shot Dana and great to be able to get up close to this giant of a space vehicle.
Wonderful shot.
Quite scary! A super pic.

Wonderful shot!
Fantastic shot and really interesting information. I saw it test fired on the news once in the sixties. i wish I could have witnesses one of those launches!
Fabulous capture of this magnificent behemoth, Dana. Incredible power on display. I remember working on the nose end of the Saturn rocket way back when. And, ironic that we have regressed back so far in the manned space program.
What a spectacular shot!! With those statistics I'm amazed it could get off the ground. Incredible amount of brains went into that project. Great info. Totally fascinating. Thanks.
Surprising that this big boy never got the biggest planet name, Jupiter rocket!
Fantastic capture Dana, and thanks for the great info also.
THE BIG ONE :) Great shot
