Description
Visited the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), which is the NASA installation, that has been the launch site, for every United States human space flight, since 1968. Although such flights are currently on hiatus, KSC continues to manage and operate unmanned rocket launch facilities for America's civilian space program from three pads at the adjoining Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Its iconic Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) is the fourth-largest structure in the world by volume and was the largest when completed in 1965.
On the left is a modern day, standard US astronaut space suit. On the right is a statue of Alan Bartlett Shepard, Jr. (November 18, 1923 to July 21, 1998) who was an American naval aviator, test pilot, flag officer, and NASA astronaut, who in 1961 became the second person, and the first American, in space. Ten years later, he commanded the Apollo 14 mission, and became the fifth person to walk on the Moon. He also served as chief of the Astronaut Office from November 1963 to July 1969 and from June 1971 to August 1, 1974. Shepard was promoted from captain to rear admiral on August 25, 1971. He retired from the US Navy and NASA in 1974. He lived just a few miles from where we spend summers in New Hampshire. Some info from Wikipedia. Zoom works!

Very cool images and great information, Dana thanks for sharing
Beautifull picture :)
I hate to be the bearer of tragic news, but I think it has been relegated back to fifth spot by The Aerium airship hangar in Germany at over 180 million cubic feet!!!!!!!! Seriously though, it must have been a super place to visit. Thanks for sharing your photos and info Dana.
Fascinating, and I love the bronze sculpture.
Great shots Dana, that's one place I would love to visit. Check out a fireback you inspired me to post a few days ago!!!

Excellent captures and collage and great reflection in the visor on the left! :) "that has been the launch site, for every United States human space flight, since 1968." That's what they want you to believe. ;)
GREAT TO KNOW YOU ARRIVED SAFE AND SOUND! ;D
Stellar capture of the fellow in the space suit (or is that a model?), and for the bronze statue of Alan Shepard, Dana. Is he still alive? Must be really cool to visit the site. Unfortunately, our manned space program is on hiatus for several years to come, thanks to short budgeting and foresight.
Wonderful figures, dear Dana. Great information too. Hugs for all day. Di. xx
