For all those who do not return from war.

Under the weeping willow, by the flowery bank
Glides on our boat along the glistening stream;
Ripple of oar and hand outstretching fingers,
Rustle of tree, murmur of stream, the chirp
Of birds - all around, - and you,
The jewel made for this so lovely setting.
A mystery, far-gazing look in eye,
Hand resting, hair flowing free,
Nature at your feet.
Deep in the rosy crystal of the past
Rest unforgotten, as you were that day,
Rest loving and well-loved. What world
There might have been is also there
In glance enshrined. Summer sun
That love-warmed day warms on in memory.
Gone are those years, but flame shall last
The glow of such a well-loved past..
