Description
The five story pagoda was originally in the Japanese exhibit at the Panama Pacific Exposition of 1915. After the close of the exposition the Hagiwara family had it brought to the Japanese Tea Garden, San Francisco, California, USA. In Japan and other countries in the Far East, pagodas which are Buddhist shrines, were often built over a sacred relic. It is unknown if this tradition was continued here. For perspective, the red door at the very bottom is a full sized door. Scanned photo from early 1980s.

Lovely capture of this ornate pagoda!!!
Awesome photo of this magnificent architecture!!
Wonderful capture Dana.
That would make a great summerhouse.
This is art, both the building and this picture, with his fantastic recording.
I went to these gardens in the fall of 1982. (My husband, Bill, was stationed at Mather AFB) I have a photograph of my mom standing below this pagoda. Sadly it was a very bright day, and all of the floors save half of the bottom one are in dark shadow, while the rest (including Mom) are very over exposed. Maybe someday I'll try to salvage it with Photoshop. Excellent capture and information! I love the colors and all the detail of the woodwork.
