Description
(The English translation of the title is: Here is the guardian of the temple of life and death.)
An ancient Sumerian legend tells of a goddess, guardian of a temple, who asked to anyone wishing to enter there if he was willing to sacrifice himself to live or to die. In both cases, there would be a price to pay, and this was no money or other material richness.
There are so many things that money can not pay or reach!
About the stone represented in the scene as a monolith, it is a temple hymn to Iddin-Dagan, king of Larsa, cuneiform (Sumerian script) inscripted clay from ca. 1950 BC. Current located in the Department of Oriental Antiquities of Louvre Museum, Paris, France.

The Sumerian mythos is indeed a rich one imbued with superb artifacts, of both written and artistic beauty. The genesis and influence of this remarkable civilization is responsible for myriad siblings down through the ages. I have enjoyed your referenced Louvre exhibits many times. Your rendering embodies numerous facets of this culture with marvelous classical imagery. Bravissima!
Please have another merry click from me.
interesting symbolism and a cleverly crafted composition, I wonder why it is, that throughout the ages, the gods have always been violent or capricious - how many cultures had gods of kindness and humanity, or even of peace?
Fantastic work on this great scene very well done my friend!!
