Description
I was watching the London riots on Youtube when it dawned on me just how close to home they were. I began to recognise streets and shops, and realised what I was watching was taking place on the very streets I used to walk when I was young. It’s an odd feeling, when anger and nostalgia clash.
I now consider Australia home, but London to me is still much more than a place I simply used to live. It’s where I grew up (some would argue I never did). It’s largely responsible for my personality (ever suspicious, often sarcastic). It’s an integral part of my makeup; and not in spite of, but because of all its faults, I love it.
I set about capturing the London I remember, rather than the London that is. It’s far from perfect, but I thoroughly enjoyed drawing it.
Artrage on an iPad 2 with a $2 stylus.

Thanks Mike. I didn't paint it in the traditional sense. I used the Artrage iPad app.
Man may not be a true painting in the sense of paint and brush bit it is brilliantly styled and looks Fantastic!
I'm a True Cockney, born in east London within earshot of Bow Bells. I know EXACTLY what you mean! I now live in Norfolk but I lived the first twenty one years of my life on those streets, they were great times, times that will never be known by many many people now living there and and never known again by the rest of us. the riots were sickening! just like you, I watched in horror as it all unfolded. I knew every landmark and street shown on TV. I watched as those little thugs lay waste to my birthblace, my true home.My family moved out of London in 1979 because we could see this coming, as did many of our friends.....Funny the powers that be didn't see the same? to my mind Londoners had a certain "Humour" about them, it was what got them through all the hardships delt out the them in the past.... That humour has gone! Sorry people, I don't mean to use this as a political sounding board but this painting has taken me straight back to the 60's and 70's London that I loved, My home is gone. Really lovely piece of work. 5*
Clawshrimp, this is cool. I finally got my self an ipad early this year. And I've done hundreds of sketches using the Autodesk sketch book O trial version app. I'll upload some of them soon.
Interesting!
