Description
The red cliffs of Sedona, Arizona, are actually made up of limestone that was laid down when this area was under a shallow sea. Limestone is a rather neutral color on its own, but this area contains quite a bit of iron oxide (rust) that has stained the limestone to its present color.
The red rocks are quite beautiful and dramatic, and are a popular tourist destination.
The day we flew around this area, we were the only plane in the sky. It was just an amazing experience. Those of you familiar with small planes can imagine what it was like flying over those rock formations. You feel every dip and peak, and there's a connection with the land that you wouldn't imagine you'd have up there.

Fabulous shot and lovely rock formation!
You went up in a little plane??? Voluntarily???? I'd have to be dragged and drugged. But I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that we got to see this amazing capture of the red rocks. Well done!
Wow, Tara! What a spectacular pano - this is awesome! Yeah, I think Arizona limestone is a lot more colorful than Missouri limestone.... Off-white to yellowish gray. Bleah. Fantastic shot!
Beautiful pano, low res is a pain!

A superb capture. I'm afraid I'm not a fan of those little planes as I get airsick in them.

Very nice! I too love the reds in that area.
Really lovely Tara and I know what you mean by feeling all the dips and peaks, Julie was sick from start to finish when we flew over the Grand Canyon.
Great panoramic image. Reminds me a little of Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. I know what you mean about small planes. Did you get to experience the plane moving sideways?
LOL at Denise!!! I agree with her. However - this image alone made that trip so worthwhile! Most wonderful image Tara and definitely an area that I want to visit!
I am glad I wasnt up in that little plane, even though I would get such a wonderful view like this.

Nicely done! Ok, now let me see if I have the photos of the small plane you and Hugh were flying in that day...that is enough of the right type to make an interesting collage...if so, I'll link it back to this panoramic view for reference:)
