Description
I saw my first giant strelitzia (Stelitzia Nicolai)on holiday and thought what a gorgeous plant. This is from a seed, bought in the U.K. I thought in a small pot it would restrict it's size and maybe flower early! I have contacted my local garden centre now with a "free to a good home" deal. Each leaf was 18 inches higher than the last. A leaf hit the roof in the autumn then a new leaf started as you can see a few weeks ago. It was going to look such a mess if it kept growing into the roof.
I still cannot believe it was a seed 3 years ago.
So now it is in a cafe in a garden center with room to grow and it has been repotted!!
The manager said it was the first time he had been asked if he wanted a plant from a member of the public. It's usually the other way around. I have grown normal strelitzias, it seemed a good idea to try the "Big one" with blue/black flowers at the time.

What a monster Kevin. You certainly have green fingers. I am glad you found him a good home. I hope it flowers for them. Now, can you tell me what to do with Weeping Figs when they get too large? Mine haven't quite reached the heights that your one has..... yet.
A super capture of this giant. It really must like this spot to have grown so fast and your care and attention. I hope you are able to go to the cafe when it is in bloom to see your reward.
Wow, what a beauty! Glad you found it a good home!
Beautiful
Great story and picture Kevin but I don't think I will be buying one of them any time soon!!
Stunning capture and this plant sure grew very fast.
Golly! That is so impressive! Your aeonium looks very happy too, I have a lot of luck with those, but I've gone off sharp pointy things like agaves since steroids, sun (and past nicotine) thinned my skin!
feeeeed meee!
