Description
I didn’t have a lot of money on my first trip to Bali but then the prices weren’t all that high. In the upper left corner is a mythical creature known as the Barong. I will be showing more of this creature and the story behind it in the coming days. On the right is the Barong’s enemy Rangda. She is the personification of evil (sorry ladies). At the bottom is a hanging sculpture of cranes. All hand made using the tools you saw yesterday.

upper left - me on a good day Great captures, Mark
They're all fantastic, but I particularly like the cranes ... so gracefully done!
Great work! I too appreciate the cranes very much as I have a similar carving.
braces came to me mind sometimes I wonder where in the world does these thoughts come from so it created a smile to watch looking at each and every detail how the mind it works as the colors spark a stare wonderful captures warm hugs, Linda
The masks are evil spirits, and birds bring love into the house....I've read. Wonderful work and pics!
Hello Mark, love the cranes (never saw them around) their beak is quite sensitive for transporting back home. which what i am always bringing home it would not survive. Seems one of them suffered and lost a part 8-(. Masks natural and painted I brought for a while to Greece, but then many other suppliers imported also as somehow it started in Greece an ethnic-shop-boom, so i stopped and concentrated on other items.
How wonderful they are! As for Rangda, I always knew there was something funny about Esther Rantzen.
Beautiful shots.
I love carvings and these are awesome looking forward to your story superb collage thanks for sharing !
Wonderful captures,Mark !Splendid shots !
Wonderful and very interesting images!
LOL Andrea! I noticed the teeth right away too, though I didn't think of orthodontically challenged Ms Rantzen. Barong looks like he has been utilizing Klingon (or Ferengi) teeth sharpeners. Beautiful work! I love the detail and depth of Barong. He's my favorite, and I look forward to hearing more about him.
beautiful artwork!
