Description
I took this photo of the Indian Watchtower at Desert View, Grand Canyon...then found that the architect, Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter (1869-1958) was the real story behind the image here...
Have left this very large...ZOOM to see detailed stone work.
If you like art, architecture and biography, take a moment and check out Mary J Colter at this link.

Excellent image! I love being able to see all the detail. Well done!
Oh, no. So, she fooled you, too! :) Very nice photo of the "fake" watch tower. It looks like it could be a private dwelling from the photo's looks. Keep up the good work. :-)
Just fascinating to read about her, and I love your pic!
Good read & great pic, even got Mr. Crow on top :o)
I was in this very tower only a couple of weeks ago Bill. This is a super shot of it.
What a shot! I love the rich details and the textures/colors, and even better, there's a crow making excellent use of this place. Really wonderful. I'm off to follow the links now. I love how ancient this looks, despite the presence of modern glass. Really well captured and presented stuff here!
The various layers of rock are amazing. Thanks for the link too, Bill! Clive
great capture of this castle top, and to capture the raven at the top fits perfectly- thanks for sharing!
WOW! That is indeed special. DId she make the whole building or only on the top of an old tower? OK, I better take a look at the link. WOW! that gave me the answer. OH My, I see she has a very large passion for stone work. Really fascinating. Thanks for sharing this :)

A GLORIOUS shot! A fave for sure! Outstanding quality and colours! Well done! Rob
Wonderful capture of the clarity and detail of every stone in this picture, Bill. When I first saw this structure, I instantly thought of it being easy to defend, with a rifleman or two at every trapizoid opening.
A very impressive tower and the stonework looks superb. A wonderful clear capture.
Awesome Photo !! Love the stonework. Very well done.
this is wonderful. I been there and this brings back memory
Great capture it reminds me of a climbing wall with all those jutting out rocks..

Got to be one of the coolest structures around! Great capture!

Brilliant shot Bill so much detail. I remember seeing this when I was there, about 10 years ago, I need to get back. Wasn't there a gift shop inside there or am I remembering it wrong. I know I did buy a Grand Canyon sweatshirt and I still have it.
Great pile of bricks.....love the variation in colours, though a bit OTT for a bird perch :-) Off to check the link.....
Fantastic shot of the tower, Bill! Love all the detail in the tower's walls - such lovely stone texture! I'll check out that link tonight..
