Description
Yes, yes, I know...AGAIN? It's Iain. This time with hair and clothes and a side by side comparison of post work and no post work. Left side-post. Right side-raw render.
Lucian hair by littlefox from RDNA, Dark Thorn by RavenHair with Fallen textures by Laksmi from Daz. DM's Playhouse Chimera for the background. Simple light set up w/a very bare application of the Jeremy Elite Spec maps and M4 Displacement from Daz, too...and loads of work on the bump maps on this boy's skin and work on his eye textures so far. More to do. Overpainted the hair here, too. Various other tidbits in post.
Crits welcomed!

how can I "crit" this??? he's stunning!!! I WANT HIM!!! drool
Raw renders can lack contrast--often. At least mine do, too, so I'm with you on the post work and why. Good going! And of course, a fetching gentleman. ;^) Did you use Levels (Photoshop) to pop up the contrast of the whole picture? Because the lights on the face are just a bit out of balance with the darks in the picture.
Actually, very little. That came about from a few other layering tricks and the fact that the light that's hitting his face doesn't reach behind him-it goes up from there? I noticed that too, but hey...it added drama? There wasn't much I could do with the contrast with the background unfortunately, from the light set up I had there was hardly any type of shadowplay at all. Thank you both for those lovely comments (and great crit-gotta watch the levels!) you two!
could also be called bookends
Great work and the postwork does the trick
Man Powerful strength and detail in the shadowing!
I really love the post worked version of this. The other one is nice, but a little blah, which often renders can come out that way. The highlights on his face, torso and hand in the post work really are nicely done and the contrast adds so much 'pop' to the image without being overlit. I am often baffled by why so many 'night' renders are so overlit, and so many 'night' light sets produce results that could be daylight. I prefer to do my own lights, especially for night scenes. Anyways, enough of my little soapbox, I'm stepping off now. Grand work!
Post work winning.
superb character and that outfit is perfect for the scene. I think it looks so much better with the post work....textures and details look so much crisper.
killer work on original, fantastic work on post! I hate it when people brag about no post, or look down on a renders with postwork! Post can make a scene or character render more unique to the artist! Bravo!
