Description
Melas Deeps was a Martian community whose original function was as a science station to study the deepest elevations in the surface of Mars; a long natural trench stretching along the base of bluffs forming the rim of Melas Chasma. In this render, the distant bluffs rise 7.5 kilometers above the deepest gouche in the crust of Mars. The city was located farther out onto the canyon floor where the ground rises back up a kilometer or more above the trench.
Eventually, the riches of that trough attracted mining and industrial interest and the tiny station grew into one of the larger and more important communities that supported the Martian Colonization efforts. By 2150, it had a population of nearly a million people. As with all Martian cities, all you see here is the "tip of the iceberg."

Nice Sci-Fi Marsscape. One observation though, from a guy who wanted to be an astronomer. Mars is more of a raw sienna color. Check out NASA's Mars Rover and other Mars sites lots of good references.
