Description
The War of 1812 began with a lot of enthusiasm for conquering Canada in response to a high-handed British Navy's impressment of American civilian sailors into their naval service. About the only naval success we had was the battle at Put-in-Bay, a small island on Lake Erie, and that was a just minor triumph. We ended up with Washington DC sacked and burned by the Brits; although when they tried to do the same thing to Baltimore, we Americans stood our ground. It was there that Francis Scott Key penned his "Star Spangled Banner" that later put to the music of an old beer drinking song and eventually began our national anthem. Our one major land victory was the Battle of New Orleans when Ol' Hickory's army--with the help of local citizenry, pirates, native Americans, and blacks both free and slave--held off the much larger and better equipped British forces. The irony was that the battle was fought a month after a peace treaty had been signed by both sides.
Here, I have tried to portray an American cutter of the time as it patrols along the shores of Lake Erie. Unfortunately, the more historically accurate uniforms that I had intended to use caused repeated crashes due to insufficient memory. How I hate that phrase!!!
Hope you like it. Thanks for comments and favs about previous postings.

Wonderful render and great history lesson I can hear Johnny Horton's song in my mind about the Battle of New Orleans
Nice! and yes, Vue does tend to be a memory hog at times. Especially with all those trees!
Great looking scene! Nice sea spray on this one. And my memory gets insufficient too. I mean the computer. Mostly.
Still looks like a great scene, and you did as much as you could with the resources you had available. At this size, I don't think much of the historical uniforms would've stood out. ;)
Lovely capture and baeutiful colors,ciao
Nice work on this render, Jeremy.. Vue must be a beast to work with, and I only sometimes work with Poser Pro.. Good one.. Rob
Very nice composition & view.
