These rare creatures will release a 'projectile' of sorts from their rear 'bomb bay door', designed to hit anyone who dares get near their lunch. They exist on a diet of chips, french fries, meat pies, and every other food group known to man. Photography can be extremely frustrating and difficult. To get just this one shot, I had to stake out our local beach for over 30 seconds!!!!!!
Sadly, they are endangered, and current estimates put their population worldwide at a frighteningly low 345 Billion!!!!!!!!!!

That's hardly a big enough number to ensure genetic diversity. And to top it off, this one's giving you the spooky eye. You'd better watch out. Oh, and just so you'll know, in Chicago these guys (also greatly reduced in number, we only have about 1 billion of them here (per city block) will actually steal food out of your hand, if you're smaller than the average 777, the only known natural predator of this particular species. This is a great shot and I love the chip-thief revealed in the link.
