Description
The B-52H has a wing area of 4000 square feet, and, as it can be seen, some serious flaps. The dual main gear in the front and rear of the aircraft's fuselage can be turned in either direction up to 22 degrees. This facilitates landings/take offs during cross-wind. For taxiing, only the front gear is used. During take off the wing lifts as the aircraft approaches flying speed and the wing wheels become airborne.
The cockpit is surprisingly crowded, with 8 throttles and gage sets, plus monitoring of the ECM, TV and other electronic countermeasures.
This picture was taken on Luke AFB, flight line on 18 Marc h 2011,

interesting shot
Nice shot of this beast.
i do not understand why you call the b-52 stratofortress a heavey hauler. i carries bomb etc. not cargo. i have heard and refered to the buff as a lot of things but never that.
Cool capture Sig, reminds me of my days growing up at March Aitforce Base in the late 50's!
TERRIFIC SHOT
Fantastic capture, Sig!
What a fantastic plane.
Always interesting to see your capture Sig! Excellent :)
Sweeeet! I have never seen one in Arizona, but I used to watch them take off from Okinawa to bomb Vietnam in the sixties.
Awesome. Love the "Buff" My dad was a jet engine mechanic and worked on these when they were stationed at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota. As well as KC-135s and F111 Tactical Fighters.
@buff626. 'Heavy Hauler' is in quotes, that means that it is a name, a name given to this particular B-52 by its crew. I have always known B-52s as BUFF - Big Ugly Fat Fellow, and other, more graphic iterations used by military members, when it was save to do so.
In the 90s when many of the different models were being faced out there were 100s of them at the 'graveyard' at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Arizona.
A wonderful shot of this huge aircraft. Superb capture.
Fantastic capture Sig and POV. It is a monster aircraft. Dana

of all the large jet engine aircraft of the military, the B52's are my favorite.I use to love seeing them come in real low to land at Carlswell AFB at Ft Worth.excellent work to get the entire wing span into the shot
