Description
I have to admit that I was completely charmed by Eureka. Founded in 1850, it sits at the entrance to Humbolt Bay and is the largest coastal town between San Francisco and Portland, Oregon. A town of only 28,000 people, it has the feel and resources of a much larger city. The bulletin boards at the laundromat and library were filled with announcements of services for women’s, senior citizen’s and children’s issues as well as events for the various arts. The downtown area, once a rundown slum, had been preserved and rehabilitated. It is now on the United States Register of Historic Places.

Very cool capture, Mark
Great image Mark and fascinating narrative! Well done!
Fascinating...biggest city between SF and Portland...never thought about that before. Cool shot.
All sorts going on here, looks like return of the zombies
Very beautiful photo and interesting info !
Such an interesting set of facades, and an equally fascinating group of folk who look as though they are performing, either intentionally or accidently!
Lots going on here, nice eye dancer!
A tranquil setting. here the world seems to be in order. Reminds me of a doll's house. What I like best - in addition to the architecture - that the kids have fun. A wonderful street scene. Greets JuliSonne
Excellent shot - looks like a great place to spend some time
gorgeous, fantastic image!
The title reminds me of my beloved Berlin with the "Humboldt University", not quite as grandiose but still as interesting in name (slightly different spelling) and presentation, maybe there is a connection of ex-German influence ? BB
I had some friends back in the 60's (they were brothers) that moved to Eureka. I think they worked in the macrobiotic heath store. I wonder if they are still there, did you see them? Such a small place I'm sure everyone knows everyone. What a great place. Charming and mall free. What a delight. You've captured the charm for me.
It is a great little place the dancers and building capture the place perfectly
