Description
...not the stinging variety but the "Double Wasp" 18 cylinder variety.
If any of you had fathers or grandfathers flying or being flown around during World War II, chances are an engine like this got them around...and pretty fast.
This engine is part of a collection of flyable WWII aircraft and is a ready spare whenever needed.

WOW! impressive shot and the link is stunning in the information that is there! this makes a salad shooter look extremely tame....
Now this is my kind of photo Bill! Great shot of this old radial and interesting info. Top post. I'm off to an airshow on Sat morning so hopefully there should be heaps of pics on their way! I'm especially hoping to shoot a visiting US Raptor. This went over me at work yesterday but alas my cameras were all inside!
VERY IMPORTANT CAPTURE!!!!!!!11111
Looks great Bill I bet it could move when it needed to, Nice capture!!
Full size much better. Very fascinating capture seeing all the details, tubes and rivets and a lots of other things.
Do I see a Harley or Flying Merkel in there...? Stunning engineering and detail, Clive
excellent image
Billy Preston must have known about this, and wrote a song just for me! :P I really like what you did here. The engine stands out from the background, but the effect is subtle. Really fine work!
Great!!
Gosh! What an invention! Superb pic.
Wonderful capture Bill.
It's a real beauty ... and I mean it, sound technology generates beauty ...
That's some ptop it's attached to :-) An engineering marvel, marvelously captured...may have a go at 'building' one, one day.
Great shot...

SUPERLATIVE SHOT
And here I was sure you were venturing into insects photography! Well, this is a lovely capture of arcane (to me) machinery! Looks like you've been learning from Tara about capturing pieces of things! Great work, Bill!
Somehow, I just knew this was going to be a Wasp engine! And what a beauty it is! Nice capture of this classic, Bill!
Great POV and capture! :)
Great detail of the clock work which served so many missions well. This had been the days when listening to a plane was still something which gave men... well, goosebumps.
Great shot (into the concept file it goes).

Well I was expecting to see the stinging variety but I will settle for this amazing looking engine. It is rather amazing when it is stripped like that.
