Description
White-faced Herons feed in shallow water on intertidal mud flats and reefs, and also in pastures. They eat crustaceans, fish, insects and worms. I was watching this bird as I was having my lunch. It kept picking up leaves and slammed them back down with a look of frustrated indignation! Then it found what it had been searching for all along. A crab was on the menu! You can even see the ripples in the water from where it snatched it's prey.
OM NOM NOM NOM!

I love your composition of this capture! Clive
Awesome capture Andrew and yes they eat crabs and frogs and lots of freshwater fish and how are u doing Andrew we have seen some of the bad flooding on the news over there and some of the pics of animals trying to swim out of it well i just had to turn my head i cannot stand to see some of that and how awful for something to strike over there hope ur ok.
This is quite a shot. We don't have these in my neck of the woods and we're poorer for it. They look like such an elegant species. I love the manner in which you captured this one, and your account. Birds have such interesting habits, especially those that eat things other than seeds and nuts...they DO seem to express emotion, or at least rudimentary thought patterns. Really well done and I quite like those ripples. They're subtle, but a fantastic catch.
What a beautiful Heron. Thanks for sharing. I have never seen this species before.
Wow, how fantastic this is!
