Description
All that beautiful deterioration and rust!
Captured 12/17/10, very early on an overcast morning, not down by the levee, but within walking distance of my gravid pad.
Much better viewed full size.
This was a long distance shot taken through a chain link fence. I couldn't get any physically closer because the auto was sitting inside a locked enclosure. I really wish I could get inside for some closeup pics. I've tried locating the proprieter or owner of the lot but he/she is nowhere to be found. Anyway, I'm sure Lynell will appreciate this.
Auf wiedersehen, thankx for coming by, and for any and all complimentary comments and faves.

I love its fixed grin!!
Hey, a couple of new tires and she's good to go, LOL. that is when they built cars like tanks!!
Damned! What a pity to see treated as vehicles and luxury of the 50 reduced to piles of rusted scrap metal! Nice picture!
shame that this oldy is rusting away, great picture! RS
THAT'S where it went! I'm sure this must be the old car we migrated to California from Minnesota in when I was 3... :) Great find!
I think its a bit late to try to drive this Chevy to the levee... but perhaps you could sit on the hood and drink your whiskey and rye. And I think its a 53 no wait a 54 actually I have NO clue those years are so similar. All I know is its older than me. And the way it is sitting in that fenced yard it looks like someone has plans to spruce her up a bit. Nice photo Harry and thanks for thinking of me. I talked to my mom who lives in California (Simi Valley) and she said it was 80 degrees there, sounds pretty nice to me right now, we are expecting a white Christmas here this year, my son is coming home and he is so excited, especially when I told him about the snow forcast.
Wonderful catch Harry but that would be a restore project that would take the rest of my life. Dana
It is a '54 beyond the shadow of a doubt...that is the car I took my driving test on at age 16 (the car was a couple of years old by then) :-)
I LOVE THESE THINGS!!! There are about four "gonna fix it someday" early 50's to early 70's sitting in my town. I keep a pingin' them hoping that someday they'll let me have one just to get rid of ME. This one doesn't look too far gone (yet). I've rebuilt worse (but it wasn't as fun as it should've been). Lookin' for another. :o) Definately a 54 Chevy (the 53 had the same body but fewer "teeth" in the grill and round turn signals up front).
Oh wow that a sweet fixer-upper Harry!! This car reeks of unlimited possibilities! WOW!
yes! wonderful capture, and (how do I say it) wonderful that you 'captured' it. Ie, that you sought it and thought it worthy. Choice is part of the art. Yes, it would be great if you could've gotten close up, though this is strong & clear for a long distance shot! You know, I was shooting an electrical park near downtown chicago (transformers) and I was stopped, not thinking for a minute that my photography might be construed as an invasion of property sensitive to the city's security. I didn't even think about it. (I was grateful that they stopped me, as they were looking out for the security of the city. I offered my ID, in fact, or whatever they needed; and when they gave me their blessing but told me to expect to be stopped whenever I shot these things, I walked away & I swear I photographed 2000 dogs, children & flowers so they knew I was a PHOTOGRAPHER, dammit, and not something else. I kept thinking, "See? Another damned puppy!") The point is: I understand what it's like to want to get close but you can't---this thing is crying out for a photo-shoot. But for a long-distance shot, you still got it, the presence, the personality, the clunkiness and the "i ain't budgin'" feel of an old car. Wonderful upload, I never tire of these. (I have one in my collection: Maybe I'll see if it's post-able. I was on top of it, but my car skills aren't yours by any means...)
good shot you took here. guess they going to fix it up now or sell it as is. I talked to a person that did this type of work and had one almost looking as bad but not as bad as this one and it was a little older but with out touching it at all he selling it for around $50,000. he got the car for very little.
Yep, it's a 54, the 53's have round parking lights and a few minor trim differences but are essentially identical. I love this picture and wish you could have gotten closer as well. Still, what you got is pretty amazing. Those old Chevies really were lookers, and even in this condition it's still a handsome car. Unfortunately it might be a tad late for a restoration in this particular case, but you never know. At lest the old doll is delightfully atmospheric if nothing else. Great shot!
Very cool find. I do hope she finds someone to restore her to her former glory.
I agree with CoreyBlack, it's a '54, but he reinforces my belief. I owned one as my first car many years ago and wish I had kept it. It ran great except for using oil and was a good solid car. Thanks for sharing.
Can't help with the year! But it could be fixed up so nice! lol What a shame really, well found and caught.. Rob
