Description
Sir Ghislaine was a knight-errant, constantly roaming throughout the realm looking for adventures and tests of courage to prove himself. He heard tell that there was a troll terrorizing the forests of Umbresia and so he set off to that land. The troll was said to roam the forests on foggy nights of the full moon, and so Sir Ghislaine set out to find this terror, choosing his mighty war hammer to fell the beast. The courageous knight-errant indeed found his quarry, but was much surprised that the wily troll had a hammer too...a bit mightier than his own! The question is whose hammer will strike home first?
As I attempted to illustrate this story, the image was just not popping out like I had hoped until I started playing with some filters and found this one which produced a result that reminded me of the sketches in old books of myth and legend that I used to read as a kid. These were images sketched in pen or pencil that illustrated climatic moments in lives of legendary characters or mythological creatures, and I think this scene is reminiscent of those. I hope you like it too!
Thanks for looking and for your comments and favorites, they are a great source of encouragement for this artistic knight-errant!

Very cool battle scene and that black and white illustrated style really gives it a very unique look. Excellent work!!
Wonderful! It is a dangerous dark night scene. The mono-tone color is effective to the great story.

Fantastic work, it does look like the ol timey illustrations in books. I think you may have stumbled upon a very cool technique.
I think Sir Gislanes hammer hit at first... His arms are shorter and he is faster... Great scene, i love this filter, looks great! Very well done!

great!
Love the stark B/W, looks like a pencil drawing, amazing!
I remember stumbling across those illustrations as a kid, one sticks in my mind still, that of Conquistadors being hacked and mutilated by Aztecs IIRC. Done alot of times in a crosshatch style I think they were engravings originally. Your technique is very similar. Yeppers, ol' Mr. Troll goes down after the first knee strike...lol. Merry Christmas, Marco, I hope you get everything you wish for.
