Description
Sir Ghislaine was a knight-errant, constantly roaming throughout the realm looking for adventures and tests of courage to prove himself. He heard tell that there was a troll terrorizing the forests of Umbresia and so he set off to that land. The troll was said to roam the forests on foggy nights of the full moon, and so Sir Ghislaine set out to find this terror, choosing his mighty war hammer to fell the beast. The courageous knight-errant indeed found his quarry, but was much surprised that the wily troll had a hammer too...a bit mightier than his own! The question is whose hammer will strike home first?
As I attempted to illustrate this story, the image was just not popping out like I had hoped until I started playing with some filters and found this one which produced a result that reminded me of the sketches in old books of myth and legend that I used to read as a kid. These were images sketched in pen or pencil that illustrated climatic moments in lives of legendary characters or mythological creatures, and I think this scene is reminiscent of those. I hope you like it too!
Thanks for looking and for your comments and favorites, they are a great source of encouragement for this artistic knight-errant!

I don't want to be in this poor knight's shoes right now... :) Splendid image, Marco it looks very different from your previous work! Is that another render style, or is this b/w style created in postwork? No matter how - it's spectacular! And pretty scary... :) Vashek
Amazing render!

Fantastic poses and tones. Looks superb!!
Really cool image! I like your technique here! Personally, it looks to me like they're about to break off for a beer and discuss the finer points of hammers. I think they both must have bought theirs from Hammers-R-Us, and recognized it. You know, that brand loyalty thing.
This is Fantastic work.
You, my Friend, have everything : imagination and talent. This is a masterpiece which looks like an old picture, etched engraving.
It's amazing ! Very creative and well done with the filters, you have really managed to make an image like the ones in old books of myth and legend !
