Description
The boneyard, the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) is located adjacent to Davis-Monthan AFB, near Tucson. Here aircraft of all United States branches are processed for long-term storage. Most aircraft transferred to this facility are 'cannibalized', i.e. stripped for spare parts. Some aircraft are stored for possible later use, or sold to other government agencies or foreign countries.
In this picture my mother is standing in front of a Convair F-102 'Delta Dagger' fuselage.
Picture was taken in December 1984 and later scanned.

really nice shot!
very good shot. nice to see your mother
Nice shot. I always wondered what they really do with all the old craft. You have a beautiful mother. Aloha
It's nice to know there are planes available to cannibalize for those that need restoration! They need to get authentic parts from somewhere. The planes at our favorite museum wouldn't be in flying condition if it weren't for this sort of thing. (Of course those are all WWII planes, but I'm sure you get what I mean.) Lovely to see your Mother, Sig. A wonderful image!
The F-102 makes me think about all the aircraft that have gone through the boneyard onto the scrap yard over the years. Really like seeing this photo of your mom...she lived a long life!
