Description
Rally round the flag, boys! Lock and load!
Captured 7/31/10, at the American Civil War Reenactment, held at the vast and beautiful El Dorado Park in beautiful Long Beach, California.
Much better viewed full size.
Some of these pics look like my previous battle posting; not exactly, but admittedly close. Apparently I got so carried away at this event that I lost all control, snapping wildly away, with the belief that overkill is better than underkill during these rare events, at least for me. Better to trash pics than wishing you had taken more pics....especially with outstanding subject matter at your fingertips. Anyway, more of this stuff to come.
Incidentally, the short lighter rifles employed by the kneeling bluecoats in the front line are known as Sharps Rifles, or Carbines. Google it for definitive information.
Avoir, thankx for clicking on, and for any and all complimentary comments and favs.

Well couldn't agree more on the overkill vs underkill when it comes to stuff like this. Especially in the era past films... Great captures of the event, thanks for sharing them!
the smell of the gun power must been strong and the cannons roars about all. they all pump up for the action and you are too. I know I been to one and I shot as many as I could and wish i had more menory sticks to shot more. lol I happy you got a lot and you bugging people to get out of your way. i was lucky and as i walk to the gate for it was in a fence in area[big cow field] this young man just let me in with out questions looking at my camera. maybe you can try that next time you go; just walk up acting like you a reporter which you are on this site here; they may let you in. Or email the people putting it on and they may sent you a pass to get in. Of couse you can not be in the lines . now that something? If you get a outfix you can be in the lines with the camera??? something to think about
Since my Grandfather passed down his 1863 Sharps carbine to me, these photos have more interest than to others I'm sure. Very nice series!
It suddenly occured to me that this is indeed a civil way to spend one's leisure time!
More Civil War re-enactment fun! Well done Harry. I do the same when I am out taking photos... click-click-click away :)
Hand held artillary, Sharps .50 cal.The long version was in part responsible for the near wipe out of Bison. Not worth pondering on the damage a good size volley from these could do, somewhat like walking into the path of a Browning HMG ?. I'd be the same 'shutterbug' in this situation, hard to say what you've caught among all the smoke. Another great collage........(and not a car in sight :-)
fantastic !!
I really like the last pic with all that smoke and haze. Terrific collage of the action.
You could do a whole book on this battle; and wouldn't that be an excellent use for all your shots? Easily done on Cafepress.com or Lulu.com, you might want to check it out... Another wonderful collage, bursting with little details and pieces of life!
Nice series! I'd be like you, snapping like mad until I ran out of room. The sound of that must have been incredible, though...
Super captures of this amazing event and as you say it is better to have too many than to miss out and regret later. I love the second capture with all the expressions.
You could put out a book - that is how good the photos that you have shown us in this series so far. Outstanding my friend. Thanks for the infoon the short Sharps Rifles. Learned 2 new things today. Dana
Fantastic and interesting series of action shots, there is a lot to see. My favorite is the second image.
Whoa!!!!! That's some serious smoke on the bottom two there.. But BRILLIANT! Love this collage Harry.. Bring em on.. lol Rob
Great group of photos to add to the series.
Can smell the gun powder now...quite the group there Harry. Must have been real loud!
