Description

Started to add figures, change materials, add new elements like the banners, eagles, slaves, etc. Pebbles seemed to a nice foreground touch.. but I think I will turn the helmet in the wall sideways. Using the new ZBrush 4 to decimate some of my models to get them into a lower poly count. Need to start on whip in the air, people on the wall, birds in the air..etc. haven't turned up full quality rendering yet.. no need until I have everything in place. A must zoom in image.... enjoy

The made everything more realistic as did the skin texture on the horses! It's magnificent! I know of no one on Renderosity who have ever tried a project on such a grand scale, except Stonemason perhaps, but he never have living things on the scene! It certainly will be fun to play with it! Of course a set like that can be used not only for the scene from Ben-Hur but for all kinds of historic Roman events.

Wow, this is really comming along nicely. Very impressive. IMHO I don't think you should turn the helment. Everything on the building is very formal (all the eagles are facing the same way, etc.). If you want to make the helmet less obvious, sink it into the wall a little. Also don't forget dust. It will bring the forground chariots forwand and add even more depth (up to you). Really excellent piece. I've never pushed a piece as far as you do. Excellent. - Bob

I'm actually testing out using Meta Clouds for the dust layer on the ground. First tests look promising. Next stage may take a bit longer cause I really don't have any Roman citizens to work with and their leaning over the wall poses I have to work out too. DOF is still in the works but the one that has me is modeling a whip action from his hand...second charioteer, in the air that looks natural and impressive. My wife who grew up with horses is finding me pictures as reference for the nose and mouth of the horses when racing. Thanks for the comments people.. sure helps keep me energized when doing something of this scale. The ZBrush decimation for polycount has worked so well that I look forward to the update on the center island and statue of BenHur.

Simply stunning work - the horses are magnificent, and really convey a sense of speed and struggle, and I love the sky transition from ominously dark to bright and hopeful. Excellent work!

And this is only Stage 2!!!!!! Grief!... One thing is glaringly out of place...to me, even though I don't do renders.. May I? The Slave on the right, on the track....surely not... Even in someone's wildest dreams, why! Lap one, squashed slave or massive pile up.. Just a thought.. But the rest.. Brilliance.. Rob
