Once they get to Ridge’s town, he insists on treating them to dinner at an old café on the main street. While they dine, Ridge asks them more about their plans. Clint describes this trip as a voyage of discovery for Joey and a means of overcoming his shyness. Clint thinks all the adventures they have on their trip down the Mother Road will certainly go a long way towards accomplishing those goals. After a good meal and a few beers for Ridge and Clint and a couple of Grape Nehi’s for Joey, Ridge tells them about his adventures after Clint and he parted in Japan. He won a brand new motorcycle in a card game and had it shipped back here to his home. He hasn’t even seen it yet, so doesn’t know how well it survived the shipping ordeal. They drive over to Ridge’s home, where he introduces them to his folks, Sam and Martha. Everyone hits it off . Sam takes them out to the garage, where he has been working on the motorcycle since its arrival from Japan. He only has a few more adjustments to make and it will be ready to test drive. A half hour later, Sam puts the final touches on the Bike and asks Ridge to check it out. Ridge, being the gentleman he was brought up to be, insists that his dad take the first ride, since he has been the one assemble it. With a huge, childish grin, Sam jumps on the bike and shows off what a wunderkid he used to be by putting the cycle through it paces with some very fancy maneuvers, shocking everyone with his ability to handle this cycle! Ridge is very pleased with his new cycle. He proposes to Clint and Joey that they might let him join them for awhile on their trip. They heartily agree to his idea and are very happy to have another member to their party. As the evening wears on, Ridge suggests they go down to a favorite ‘watering hole’ of his. He says he has heard about a new kid that dances up a storm and provides a very entertaining show. There is a rule, not ridgidly enforced, but strongly suggested, that all the patrons must wear red and black clothing.
