Description
Clint and Joey pack their bags, bid Joey’s parents a fond farewell and start out on their adventure, heading downtown to find the starting point of the Mother Road, old Route 66. Upon entering that old road, a thrill passes through both guys. Soon enough, they are seeing Chicago start to recede into the distance behind them, as Clint opens up the throttle on the Corvette. They rocket down old Hiway 66 with a thrill that is hard to duplicate.
The excitement of the open road is starting to take hold of Joey. In his exhiliaration, he starts to open up to Clint about his depression. He tells Clint that there was a bully at school in his Junior year that always taunted him. He tried to ignore him, but the guy just wouldn’t leave him alone. The guy just kept harrassing him and humiliating him every chance he got, until Joey ultimately began to feel like he was worthless.
He felt so hopeless about he, he just couldn’t talk to anyone about it. Finally, in their Senior year, the bully stepped across the line with someone else. He picked a fight with the wrong guy and wound up with a broken neck. He became a paraplegic and was now in a nursing home, not even able to complete his final month of High School.
While Joey felt great about not having this guy taunting him anymore, the years of harrassment had taken their toll, and Joey just couldn’t quite get his mind around the idea this guy wasn’t bothering him anymore. Clint told Joey he was glad he had finally confided in him and that he was going to make it his personal goal to try and help Joey work his way through his traumatic experience and hopefully find a little happiness along the way. That seemed to appeal to Joey because he put on the biggest smile Clint have ever seen on him since his return to the States.

A great road trip scene! And I love the depth of character development in your story!
Gut gemacht.
I love the style, too--it's so cheery and fun. Route 66 went past my old apartment in So Cal and it was a bypass for the freeway--it still had the palm trees and the 50's hotels, and an original low arch McDonalds on it, it was like a time capsule. You could imagine Jack Kerouac grooving on the palms. These guys should have a great trip!
Fantastic scene! The POV is great. The sign shows the way but it also feels like a flag at a race track to start the race. I love Clint he's a really good guy. I'm really enjoying your story.
ROFL!!! Love the LP.
