Description
We spent this past Sunday at a Fly-In in Arlington, Washington.
Photographic opportunities were everywhere.
For those of you who are not familiar with such an event, think of a huge, friendly picnic on a scenic, country-side airport (not a big, crowded jet port).
Hundreds of small planes "fly-in" for 4-5 days of festivities...there are daily air shows, displays of planes of all types and sizes (from what may look like motorized flying lawn chairs to spectacular antique aircraft), lots of camping (tents, trailers, motorhomes), loads of story-telling and camaraderie among all.
The airplane in this photo (a historic WWII B-25D Mitchell named "Grumpy") is turning onto final approach for a high speed pass over the runway to delight the crowd...the sights and the sounds are irresistible attractions for all us kids...young and old:-)))
Bill:)
I invite you to zoom in for a closer look.

Great capture! Sounds like a lot of fun!
Very good in flight shot Bill and I love the title! Sounds like you guys had fun!
her blades look motionless... excellent POV, Bill!
Hi there Gumpy!.. You were missed at Flying Legends....well, the commentators said anyway! lol Great shot Bill.. Don't you just love the noise! Mmmmmm! Super.. Rob
Love it, very rare to see them at their glory!
Glad it was a fly by and he's not on final!!! ;)
good work, Bill; these sweet aircraft used to fly over our house in West Texas (from Goodfellow AFB) all the time when I was a kiddo.... good to see 'em still aloft!
Awesome capture, Bill!
bone photo!!
Beautiful capture!!!
A really great capture Bill.
Hear that loud thump??? Well it was my jaw dropping and hitting the floor... Bill this is outstanding photography & an instant fav....
What a wonderful composition given the backdrop. Very well done, Clive
Lovely capture here Bill looks funny to see it in the air and the props not moving lol.. Beautiful..
A wonder to see!!
wow Bill, this is a gorgeous shot, love the composition and the colors, first class!
really outstanding
Excelent capture as a plane turns and a blue tones give a perfect backdropp.
Daily air shows? Give me a break. We rarely get any of that stuff down here. Considering Southern California aircraft plants manufactured so many of these wonderful WWII aircraft, it's ironic that we don't get squat, air show-wise. Anyway, cool capture of Jimmy Doolittle's B-25, shown here right after taking off from the deck of the carrier, Hornet, on his way to bomb Tokyo in early 1942.
sublime capture!!
Sounds a fantastic way to spend a day Bill. Superb image too.
Great shot!
If you'd told me you got a plane-in-the-air shot that was full of sound and wonder and beauty and excitement, I never would have believed you. But wow ... this is anything but static! The clouds and the foothills below give it an added dimension. Excellent work! :*
Beautiful photo of a beautiful aircraft! I'm sooo envious! Love all those old warbirds. Cool photo, Bill!
Excellent POV and capture! Were you in the air when you took this? :)
This is the preferred event by far compared to the big air shows, much more enjoyable! Great POV Bill! from it a sense of sitting in the cockpit with the yoke in your hands. Feeling the power of the engines and their hum in ones ear. An instant fav!
Stellar capture of this flying machine!
