Description
Here are my daughter's new butterflies, Daisy and Callie! Daisy was born late last night and Callie was born only an hour so ago. She is just absolutely giddy about this and so am I. When we found out Callie was born, she looked like her legs had gotten stuck. So, we took them outside to let Daisy go and check on the well being of Callie. Daisy immediately left the nest. My daughter was upset that she could not hold her for a moment, but understood that Daisy needed to leave. Callie seemed very slow, but she seemed to be all right. Callie is resting in the butterfly house with three other siblings awaiting to be hatched. She will be let go most likely tomorrow.
We believe they are Black Swallowtail Butterflies. I have tried to find images that look like them to verify, but I am not 100% sure of exact species and sex. If anyone has knowledge of them, would you please let me know so I can tell my daughter.

They do look like swallowtails but just emerging like this, the colors are a little different than when they are dried and the wings expanded with blood flow. Fabulous shots.

Two amazing photo's, and of course the story behind. Great, isn't it, to see how butterflies do 'coming out'? And then you have to let them go, such pity for your daughter ;-) Our youngest daughter, also 'grew' the Orange-tip butterfly. (Anthocharis cardamines)) p.s. these beautiful butterflies, we doesn't have here in The Netherlands (I suppose)

Oh that is beautiful and so very sweet. They are such lovely creatures and one wish really that they could be pets. I don't have much knowledge about butterflies but always wish I had more knowledge. Maybe one needs to use google for this one. :)
