Description
Back to the Whidbey Island Garden Tour.
This "Skyy Bush" was growing in the gardens of The Gathering Place. Notice the unique blue blossoms. While deer attempt to eat everything else...this plant (patina'd rebar and vodka bottles) remains untouched by the ever present teetotaling deer population.
Gardens here have been developed over the past five years.
"Flowing with the natural topography and applying permaculture techniques allowed the owners to harmonize with the natural stormwater control features. Rather than wiping the slate clean and building orderly beds amidst rectilinear fencelines, they meandered downslope to emulate some of their favorite hiking trails, complete with mesmerizing viewpoints."
This eye-catching bush was half way downslope...a possible cause of all that meandering? LOL

And I ask myself WHY would anyone want to build "orderly beds amidst rectilinear fencelines"! Ghastly thought. It's not a cemetery is it? I quite like the 'installation', and it reminds me I have a small collection of this cobalt blue glass.
Beautiful blossoms on this unique bush! Grin!
cool image!!
Fantastic image!!
stunning blue! but difficult to harvest. great shot! RS
Beautiful wine bottle 'tree!' Excellent work and shot! (:
Well, that is indeed a bush I have never seen before LOL ! It really stands out to the rest of the garden :-) OH, and the deer proffs are nessesary, but not nessesarily beautiful. Nor are mine.
Great capture, I wonder who emptied the bottles and was this made just after he emptied them?
Now that's something I can grow. Cool capture .:)
I found one of this species in West Seattle, I must post it...there's a house there REALLY done up in blue glass!
great shot!
Terrific shot!!
I am sure the condensation on the bottles does drip down the stems and moisten the ground... nah... must have been fun making it though! Clive
Great shot Bill. No flies on that gardener only 'bluebottles'. Lol.
Fun commentary and what an interesting tree.
really fine installation!
Oh, our neighbor down the road has one of this species of garden item! I like the all blue 'blossoms'...our neighbors have a multi-colored 'blossom' one, LOL.
This is fantastic! Love it. Interesting information, too.
Very cool !! In the town I grew up in out in California there is a place called the bottle village it was started by a 63 year old woman there are 23 buildings and structures made completely out of bottles. It was all started because she had a huge pencil collection and needed somewhere to store the pencils, the village was damaged in the 93 earthquake but I believe it was repaired and up and running with small tours. I wish I had thought to take some photos last time I was home.. Great photo.
Wonderful capture of this odd plant on display here, Bill. I wonder how goats would fare with those blue tidbits?
I would believe that this is a perennial and not an annual. it is obvious that you do not trim the blossoms. Excellent capture
I love paths that meander along and what a great find you came upon. This new speciman will surely catch on.
Ooooooo! It's a magnificent specimen! The extremely rare Bluebottlerebar bush! How cool! I need a couple of these out back by my old telephone pole. Easy to care for, and they bloom all year - even in the snow! Perfect for a gardener like me! LOL! Very cool find and photo, Bill!
I might have to start my own garden, lol. Interesting shot. Aloha
What a fantastic idea for a "plant" great shot love the blue bottles must be a blue bottle plant.. Excellent posting Bill.
So if you plant an orange tree next to it, do you get a screwdriver??? lol--gives me all kinds of ideas for MY garden!!
Sometimes beauty is best seen though the bottom of a bottle. ;D Great capture!
Its good to know those deer don't eat glass or steel!
Now why am I suddenly craving a Seabreeze?? Great shot of this unique bush! :)
Hehe... I like this! This can work in my garden and my water bill will drop drastically!!! Great find and shot Bill!
