This is the 3rd and final part of this series showing the various wing positions of this Damselfly as he flicks his wings from the normally folded above his head position to a horizontal position and back. The rest of this comment is the same as the last 2 days. This is by far the largest of the Damselflies in my area. They are as big as many of the Dragonflies I see. They appear even bigger than they are because of the very dark wings and they fly more like a butterfly than a damselfly. In fact, they are very graceful as they flutter from one perch to the next. As is the case with all Damselflies, they perch with their wings folded together above their backs for the most part but it is not uncommon for them to flick their wings open then shut - especially just after they perch. By watching closely, one can anticipate when this is about to happen because they sort of shrug their "shoulders" just before the flick. This is done to quickly for me to capture in a single burst of shots. It took several attempts to capture all three of the pics in this short series. This is a male. The females have a white dot near the the tip of each wing. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee
