Description
A photo taken inside the Fresnel lens of the Tybee Island lighthouse. It is now a 1st order Fresnel lens (based on size) and is quite valuable and rare considering each Fresnel lens is built specifically for the lighthouse it is housed in. In 1933, the fuel to light the lamp in the lens was converted from kerosene to electricity. Those two, seemingly dull bulbs shine quite bright at night thanks to the amplification of the lens.

Thanks for posting this. I love visiting lighthouses, but can't say I have ever been lucky enough to go inside one.
I have yet to actually visit a lighthouse, despite my love of them. They're quite intriguing places and you've captured the essence of this one perfectly. It looks so otherworldly, so beautifully alien, and what's not to like about that! I love your POV and the clarity is astonishing. This is great work!

You got me thinking. No wonder lighthouses needed keepers years ago. Imagine the sooty smoke that would collect on the inside of a huge Fresnel like this before electricity. Great shot...and I love Tybee Island. Did you catch a few shots of Fort Pulasky for us?

The two bulbs are actually rather large, but seemingly dim, at least in daylight. At night you can see it for many miles -- the power of the fresnel! :)

Having grown up in New England and now living on the west coast. I have been in and around many a lighthouse and yet still can't get enough. ;) Fantasic image of this rare a beautiful lens!
